Remember the people behind the characters
DustHaven is a roleplay server, but there are real people behind every character. In character, conflict can get messy. People can make choices you dislike, betray your trust, hurt your character, or take a story in a direction you did not expect.
Quality roleplay can make you feel something. Frustration, fear, anger, loss, and disappointment can all be part of memorable RP. Having a strong emotional reaction to something that happens in character is not inherently a bad thing. What matters is how we treat each other outside of those moments.
Not every interaction will go the way you hoped. Misunderstandings will happen, and people will sometimes see the same situation very differently. When that happens, remember that everyone here is choosing to spend their free time having fun and creating something together.
We do not expect everyone to agree or become friends. We do expect players to separate the character from the person behind them and show one another patience, kindness, and grace OOC, even when their characters are in conflict. The freedom DustHaven gives players only works when we can trust each other not to use that freedom at someone else’s expense.
